The Old Glory Days Story

A Heartfelt Approach to Senior Care

Old Glory Days began with a simple yet powerful idea: seniors deserve a place where they feel at home, connected, and truly cared for. In 2011, founder Emily Slattery, a licensed social worker, saw a gap in care options for older adults—those who needed support and companionship but didn’t require full-time nursing care. With a passion for helping seniors age with dignity, she opened a small adult day program out of her Southbury home, creating a space where seniors could engage, socialize, and be cared for like family.

A Growing Community in Sandy Hook

As word spread and more families sought the unique warmth of Old Glory Days, the program quickly outgrew its humble beginnings. In 2015, Emily relocated the center to a dedicated space in Sandy Hook, CT, thoughtfully designed to feel like home—complete with a cozy kitchen, living areas, and spaces for activities.

At its core, Old Glory Days isn’t just a day center—it’s a community. Seniors gather for music, crafts, gentle exercise, games, and shared meals, all in a safe and stimulating environment. With a small group setting and a high staff-to-participant ratio, every individual receives personalized attention and the encouragement to stay active and engaged.

Expanding to Meet More Needs:

Assisted Living in Watertown

As time went on, Emily saw another unmet need: some seniors needed more than daytime care—they needed a safe, comfortable place to live full-time. In 2022, Old Glory Days expanded to open an Assisted Living Home and Adult Day Center in Watertown, CT, designed to provide round-the-clock care in the same warm, home-like environment that families had come to love.

Housed in a charming colonial-style home, the Watertown location is a place where up to six residents live together in a close-knit, family-like setting. It also includes an on-site adult day care program, ensuring that even more seniors in the community can join during the day for activities, socialization, and support.

Our Mission:

  • Watertown – Providing both assisted living and adult day care, ensuring flexible care options for families.

Each location is designed to feel like home, with cozy spaces and a family-like atmosphere where seniors thrive.

Do you offer transportation?

What is adult day care, and how can it benefit my loved one?

Adult day care at Old Glory Days offers a safe, engaging environment for seniors during the day, providing them with social interaction, structured activities, and personal care while allowing caregivers time for work, errands, or rest.

Our program helps prevent isolation, promotes cognitive and physical well-being, and ensures seniors receive the attention they need in a home-like setting.

Does insurance cover adult day care or assisted living services?

Coverage for adult day care and assisted living depends on the individual’s insurance policy:

  • Medicare does not typically cover these services.
  • Medicaid may offer coverage through certain state programs for eligible seniors.
  • Long-term care insurance may help offset costs, depending on the policy.
  • Veterans’ benefits may be available for qualifying individuals.

Our team can help guide you through available financial assistance options to find the best solution for your family.

Are meals and transportation provided at your facilities?

Yes! We provide nutritious, home-cooked meals made with care, accommodating dietary needs and preferences. Transportation is also available within a set radius to ensure families have a convenient way to get their loved ones to and from our centers.

How does assisted living differ from a nursing home?

Assisted living at Old Glory Days feels like home, not a hospital. Our residents receive help with daily activities—such as bathing, dressing, medication reminders, and meals—while maintaining their independence in a comfortable, family-like setting.

Unlike nursing homes, which provide 24/7 intensive medical care, our assisted living program focuses on personalized support, wellness, and social engagement, offering a higher quality of life for seniors who do not require round-the-clock nursing care.
